The SSGT is a senior golf tour for professional and amateur golfers age 47 and older. The SSGT is open to players that do not currently have full exempt status on the Champions Tour, The European Senior, PGA, and Nationwide Tour. Players that had full exempt status, on any of the four major tours from in the past 3 years are not eligible. If you have the desire to compete at a very high level, and test your ability against some of the finest senior players in the country, this tour is an excellent proving ground. The SSGT will be conducting senior professional events honoring our United States military service members and their families during the 2010 season. Events will be held at military installations throughout the south central region of the country. The host installations have given the tour a gracious welcoming, and are very excited about having the tour players compete at their respective golf courses. |
| 2010 "New Grooves Rule" |
| The Southern Senior Golf Tour will comply with the 2010 rule change concerning the use of irons/wedges, hybrid clubs, and fairway woods. The USGA has an informational database for clubs that will and will not conform for play under the rule of "Condition of Competition"as of January 1st 2010. You can click below, scroll to the bottom, click on proceed to search, enter information about clubs that will conform for use on the SSGT in 2010. After much discussion with players about the new grooves rule, the SSGT feels it has made the correct decision by adopting this rule for the 2010 season. While there are other professional tours throughout the country, that have chosen not to adopt this rule, the SSGT feels it would not be in the best interest of the players, to ask them to play with non-conforming clubs. Players competing in US Senior Open qualifying, Champions Tour qualifiers will be required to use conforming clubs. Feb 9th 2010- I spoke with Carter Rich at the USGA test center to get clarification about clubs that are not listed in the informational data base. He informed me, that if a player has a club that is not on the list, and wishes to use it during an event, to call the USGA test center to find out if they have tested that particular club. It is the players responsibility to insure that each club used in an SSGT event conforms to the new rule. If a club is found to conform, yet is not on the conforming list, the player is required to submit the club information to the SSGT for confirmation. There are, and will be clubs manufactured in 2010 that conform, but are not in the data base. Again, please contact the USGA test center prior to putting them in play. |
